About this café
Nestled high in Venezuela’s oldest national park, the Las Trojas region is a haven of biodiversity. Here, coffee thrives on steep slopes, amidst a lush forest where nature sets its own rules.
The park’s protected status requires exemplary farming practices: the use of chemical fertilizers and agrochemicals is strictly prohibited. As a result, the coffee benefits from “virgin soil,” untouched by intensive agriculture, offering a rare organic purity. The cherries, primarily of the heritage Typica variety, draw their unique character from this untamed land.
The daily lives of the coffee farmers are shaped by their remote location: no motor vehicles are allowed in the reserve. Each bag of coffee must be transported by mule on journeys lasting several hours through the mountains to reach the town of Turmero. These demanding logistics make every harvest a true feat of human endurance.

Meet the producer
In Las Trojas, coffee farming is a family affair and relies on small farms, as exemplified by Félix Rojas at Hacienda San Rafael. These producers are the guardians of ancestral know-how, working in complete harmony with their environment.
Their commitment goes beyond mere production: it is a way of life dedicated to protecting the Henri Pittier Forest. By rejecting the easy path of mechanization and chemical use, they produce a “forest-friendly” coffee that supports the local ecosystem. Choosing this coffee means supporting a community that transforms the challenges of the mountains into a testament to excellence and respect for the land.
We source this coffee through ORIGIN2U. ORIGIN2U supports and works with Venezuelan farmers to promote and showcase their resources far beyond their borders. In addition to introducing Venezuelan specialty coffee to Europe and the UK, their team in Venezuela supports producers at every stage: from the transition to organic farming to harvesting and fermentation methods, right through to on-site logistics.
