The Torrefactory manifesto
Roasting for impact

Who we are

Torrefactory is a Belgian specialty coffee roaster founded in 2017.

Today, Torrefactory is the result of the time and dedication invested by our close-knit team, who together defined three pillars upon which we base all our actions: providing high-quality coffee, making it accessible to everyone, and doing so with the utmost respect for people and the environment.

All year round, we roast fairly sourced coffee beans using artisanal methods in Mont-Saint-Guibert and Namur.

Together, we are proud to offer quality beans and services to local businesses and coffee shops, as well as a selection of freshly roasted coffees to individual customers.

Roasting for impact

At Torrefactory, our mission is to offer artisanal specialty coffees. We are committed to supporting responsible farming practices, finding practical solutions to minimize our carbon footprint, and ensuring that our business generates economic, social, and environmental value for both our international partners and our local community.

From harvesting the beans to packaging the bags, our coffee is roasted to make a positive impact—on your mood, on our environment, and on the people involved. Whether you’re at home, on the go, or at the office—enjoy our coffee wherever you are.

Our impact objectives.

Beyond quality coffee

At Torrefactory, it all begins in the coffee-producing countries. Our commitment starts with a rigorous sourcing process, built on direct and lasting relationships with producers. We preserve this respect for the terroir through our artisanal roasting, which brings out the best in the work done right from the plantation. Our goal is clear: to make exceptional coffee accessible to everyone. Because the more of us who enjoy these beans, the greater our positive impact becomes, creating a virtuous cycle that connects the producers’ lands to our own local community.

Goal 1: Sustainable and Fair Sourcing
At Torrefactory, we believe that quality coffee should not come at the expense of the planet or the farmers. For this reason, we are committed to sourcing our coffee sustainably. We prioritize direct trade with smallholder farms and cooperatives. When direct trade is not possible, we work with committed and transparent importers.

Thanks to these importers, who minimize intermediaries and work directly with cooperatives, washing stations, or producers, we are able to purchase from small farms while paying them a premium price for their coffee.
Objective 2: High quality at an affordable price
We do our best to ensure that everyone has access to quality coffee at a reasonable price. Whether it's for a morning at home or a busy day at the office, we want to offer you the best quality coffee at an affordable price.
Objective 3: Local roasting know-how
At our roastery, “La TF,” located in Mont-Saint-Guibert, we roast our beans in small batches using traditional methods. We prioritize slow roasting to develop unique flavor profiles that highlight the distinctive character of each origin. Whether it’s the jasmine notes in our Banko Gotiti coffee or the pleasant hazelnut aromas in our Brazil coffee, we tailor our roasting recipe to highlight the flavor profile of each bean. We take pride in our commitment to quality, tasting every batch to ensure you always receive the best cup of coffee possible.

An eco-friendly approach (2024–2027 plan)

We use our resources to support an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy by sourcing sustainably and supporting our local community. At Torrefactory, we are well aware that the coffee industry is vulnerable to climate change. While it provides a livelihood for millions of producers, it is also on the front lines. Our goal is to decouple our growth from our environmental impact. To comply with the Paris Agreement and limit global warming to 1.5°C, we follow a clear strategy: “Avoid, Reduce, Contribute.” Based on our carbon footprint of 1,412 tCO2e, we are committed to reducing our carbon intensity by 30% by 2030, prioritizing a radical transformation of our operations.

Goal 4: Reduce emissions from production
Because 88% of a cup of coffee’s carbon footprint comes from its cultivation and post-harvest processing, that is where we are focusing our efforts. By the end of 2028, we aim to source 60% of our coffee from agroforestry or natural processing methods (which use less water). By supporting producers who collaborate with bioengineers and prioritize organic farming, we are transforming coffee cultivation into a powerful driver of climate resilience.

Together, we assessed our carbon emissions and identified areas where we could improve. With that, we developed an action plan that spans the entire supply chain, reduced emissions during the delivery process, and created 100% recyclable packaging for our coffee. From bean to cup, no detail was overlooked in our efforts to reduce our environmental impact.
Goal 5: Optimize our machinery fleet
Our installed equipment accounts for more than half of our carbon footprint (52.6%). To reverse this trend, we have set a goal of reducing average electricity consumption per machine by 20% by the end of 2027. We now exclusively offer models with automatic power-off features and actively encourage our customers to use "eco" modes.

Meaningful, long-lasting relationships

At Torrefactory, sincere and lasting human relationships are at the heart of our mission. We support producers through direct trade or partner importers, ensuring true fairness at every stage and a stable income for producers. Internally, our priority is to create an environment where everyone feels free to be themselves. Every individual’s place within the team is secure and valued.  Ultimately, the goal remains total satisfaction: every effort is made to provide impeccable service, from consultation to tasting.

Goal 6: Direct collaboration with coffee producers
The model is based on long-term partnerships rather than mere commercial relationships. By prioritizing direct trade and supporting regenerative practices, Torrefactory empowers producers to build financial independence and ensure the long-term sustainability of their operations. Valuing the work done at the source is essential to collective success.
Objective 7: A good working environment, good coffee

Our company culture is built on psychological safety and mutual respect. Torrefactory fosters a stimulating environment where everyone feels free to be their true selves.

  • Justice and Equity: The company is actively working to identify and remove historical and social barriers, ensuring equal access to opportunities for everyone, regardless of background or identity.
    • Diversity and Inclusion: We celebrate the richness of our diverse backgrounds. We do not tolerate any discrimination based on gender, religion, or sexual orientation, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued within our community.

This commitment applies across the board to all of our policies and practices, both within our internal operations and in our relationships with our customers and the community (suppliers and partners). Management assumes direct responsibility for implementing and monitoring these principles.

Goal 8: Uncompromising Customer Satisfaction
Operational excellence is a top priority at every stage of the process. We are committed to dedicating all the necessary effort to provide impeccable service, from selecting the beans to the final tasting. Our attention to detail and responsiveness to customer needs are the driving forces behind a successful customer experience, with no compromise on the quality we deliver.
Goal 9: Put people and equity at the heart of our relationships and our value chain

Torrefactory is committed to respecting and upholding human rights in all its business activities and relationships. This commitment is based on international standards (UN, ILO) to ensure a safe, dignified, and respectful environment for everyone. Any form of discrimination or forced labor is strictly prohibited, and the same level of commitment is required of all partners.

We expect our partners and suppliers to adhere to the same principles, and we provide employees with clear internal channels to report their concerns safely and confidentially.
